Short Treatment
Sowing the Seeds of Love explores the obscure and peculiar sex lives of animals through the eyes of Hulk Hogan (1980’s WWE wrestler icon), Joyce DeWitt (Janet Wood from the popular 1970’s sitcom Three’s Company), and Robert Picardo (known for his character as the Holographic Doctor on the 1990’s Star Trek: Voyager series). Their role in this film is to satire their popularity to make the subject of animal sexuality more digestible to those without a scientific background.
Each chapter will be dedicated to a particular celebrity and shot in the style of show they are each known for. Because the popularity of these celebrities was of a pre-digital age, I incorporated the use of 16mm film to amplify the nostalgia of generational change. Each chapter will contain animation of the animals’ sexual behaviors and draw on animations from relevant eras to further expiate the details of each animal.
These three decades -the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s - are not only nostalgic for baby boomers but are relevant today for younger generations. The WWE, Three’s Company and Star Trek are iconic in pop culture and still relevant today as they are all shown as reruns on television. This film is made to target a wide range of audiences, specifically targeting adults, of not only fans of each
celebrity, but also intrigued by the quirkiness and humor of this series. It is designed to engage the viewers through different successful film tropes and step away from traditional documentary styles.
